Mindful Eating Around the Holidays

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season. There are plenty of holiday parties coming our way and it can be easy to slip off track. If you have been pursuing weight loss-keep it up, but give yourself a bit of wiggle room. Maintaining your weight through the holidays and “cookie season” is an accomplishment on its own.
Don’t fall into mindless snacking abyss without thinking twice (2-3 handfuls of nuts, cheese/crackers, chew mix, a couple appetizers). These calories add up fast and often leave us unsatisfied and still hungry! Sometimes having a light snack (try to fit fiber/protein in!) before the party can help keep the munchies at bay.

Instead, be mindful of your choices…
-Be aware of your drive to eat. Are you hungry? Thirsty? Feeling awkward or bored?
-Choose the items that you are looking forward to and will enjoy.
-Savor your food-notice the smell, flavor, texture during your experience.
-Choose lower calorie options when possible: Raw veggies with low fat dip or hummus, fresh fruit, shrimp cocktail.

How do you stay on track over the holidays?
